About this speaker
Rupinder Nagra is an accomplished actor and producer with over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. His work has premiered at prestigious festivals, including TIFF, Telluride, London, and Venice. His breakthrough performance as Amal Kumar in Richie Mehta's acclaimed film Amal earned him a Canadian Academy nomination and the Borsos Award for Best Actor at the Whistler Film Festival.
As an actor he plays characters who are darkly dignified old souls who will win at all costs. As a producer he is attracted to stories that tackle the idea of belonging.
Nagra's film credits include diverse projects such as Kurbaan, Omerta, The Etruscan Smile and Bring it all Back Home. On stage, he has taken on roles in The UK premiere of Tony Award winner Sharr White’s The Other Place, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and My Brother and Sisters.
As a producer, his short film Amal debuted at the Telluride Film Festival, leading to the feature film version of AMAL. Both the feature film and the short film have won over 20 awards internationally. After the success of AMAL, the remake rights were acquired by HARPO. His recent venture as a producer is the feature film Bring it all Back Home which was distributed by Gravitas Ventures earlier this year.
Having lived in four countries and working in those markets Nagra has trained under world-class mentors like Stephen Frears and Christopher Doyle. His work with Tony Award winner Claire Van Kampen, International Emmy winner Richie Mehta, and Oscar winner Roger Christian, continues to fuel his passion for acting and creating stories that resonate.
